Welcoming our youngest ever member to the Toolroom Family. At just 16 years old, David Jackson has a huge future in front of him!
David! Where in the world are you right now?
On cloud nine! But physically in lovely little Heidelberg.
What does your week usually consist of?
Producing music, going to school, sometimes meeting friends/doing some sports and often preparing for gigs.
How do you manage to juggle school work and music production?
By putting all my efforts into both of them. I often have to skip meeting friends or doing sports because I have to finish a track or catch up on some sleep.
It must be a crazy feeling being in school and having Pete Tong play your tracks?!
It’s mad having these 2 worlds together. Musically I feel really over the moon at the moment but school brings me right back to earth.
Do you have many friends who are into the same music you are?
I have quite a few friends who like similar music to me but they’re mostly older than me. (In my age group barely any of my friends are, but I think they’re starting to get it)
What’s the last 3 months been like for you?
Very busy, but I love it. With my first EP on Toolroom, lots of gigs & my final exams coming up I’ve got so much going on.
Last 3 Beatport purchases?
Tiga – Louder Than A Bomb (Dense & Pika Remix)
Terr – Misantropocalia
Mark Knight, Green Velvet & Rene Amesz – Live Stream
Talk us through your vinyl collection, what are you 3 favourite records?
Phew…hard question, but these are the first 3 that pop into my mind:
Burial – Untrue
Daniel Avery – Drone Logic
Ulrich Schnauss – A Strangely Isolated Place
If you could offer any advice to up coming DJs / producers, what would it be?
Value the opinion other people give you, but especially when it comes to production try to think for yourself and find music that effects you emotionally!
What’s next for you in 2017?
After my ‘Europa EP’, releasing a lot more music that’s sitting on my computer and when I’m finished with the big school hustle… lock myself into the studio for weeks!
